Known Problems & Solutions

Please contact us if you cannot find a solution to your issue.

Update 09/15 - 1:40 AM

The K.A.I.T.T. crashing when the subscription button is pressed issue has been fixed by correcting App Store settings on my side.  If you encountered this issue,  it should work for you now.

Possible Solutions:

         1. Check Microphone Permissions

  • When you first launched the app, you should have seen a prompt asking for microphone access.
  • If you tapped “Don’t Allow”, the app cannot hear you.
  • To fix this: go to Settings > Apps > K.A.I.T.T. and enable microphone access.

         2. Make Sure Siri is Enabled

  • K.A.I.T.T. requires Siri to function.
  • Go to Settings > Siri & Search, enable Siri, then restart the app.

Solution:

Sometimes the custom voice extension doesn’t install correctly when you first download the app.

  • Delete K.A.I.T.T. from your device.
  • Re-download it from the App Store.
  • If that doesn't work, also try rebooting your device after installing K.A.I,.T.T..
  • In most cases, this resolves the issue.

Multiple users have reported they are not hearing the correct voice, even after reinstalling K.A.I.T.T. The cause is being investigated.

Possible Solutions:

         1. Check the Shortcut name

  • Confirm the iOS/iPadOS Shortcut field of your automation matches exactly with the name shown for your shortcut in the Shortcuts app.

         2. Start with the correct key phrase

  • To prevent accidental triggers, K.A.I.T.T. requires the key phrase to be included in every request — even if the key phrase requirement is toggled off.
  • Say: “Hey K.A.I.T.T. (Kate)” followed by the exact Activation Phrase you assigned to the automation.
  • If you have changed K.A.I.T.T.’s name under Customize Personality, use that instead (e.g., “Hey Bob, …”).

         3. Match the Activation Phrase exactly

  • K.A.I.T.T. will only recognize an automation request if you speak the Activation Phrase exactly as entered.
  • Flexibility in phrase matching may be added in future versions.

Peri used a third party iOS App to send directions to KITesla. It is called Remote for Tesla (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/remote-for-tesla/id991623777).

It offers shortcut options the official Tesla app does not.

Remote Tesla is an independently developed app that is not affiliated with K.A.I.T.T. or Okunarium Labs..

Apple enforces strict controls that prevent iPhone App audio from mixing with other Wired CarPlay audio sources, except in a limited set of specific situations. The limited options permitted by Apple are currently being explored,

Other apps running on the iPhone, such as Apple Music, are unaffected by this limitation of Wireless CarPlay.

Bluetooth offers different protocols with varying capabilities based on the situation and the type of device that is connected. For hands free Bluetooth communications devices, Apple provides a low quality mono protocol for conversations, and a high quality audio protocol for music playback. Only one protocol can be active at a time.

When the "Use Bluetooth Mic" option is enabled, the lower quality conversational protocol is used. This allows K.A.I.T.T. to hear you better using the mic built into your car's audio system. Unfortunately, all audio output, including music playback, will play back as lower quality mono audio while K.A.I.T.T. is active.

Disabling this feature forces your iPhone's mic to be used instead of your car audio system's mic. Depending on your setup, K.A.I.T.T. may have more difficulty hearing you. However, device audio will play back at a much higher quality level while K.A.I.T.T. is in use..
